WELCOME TO SAINT MICHAEL'S MEDICAL CENTER'S
EMERGENCY MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Over the past three decades, Emergency Medicine has established itself as a necessary and integral component in the provision of healthcare services in the United states.

In today's environment Emergency Medicine Services act as a safety net; providing both emergency care to an increasing violent society; and a basic health care needs to millions of uninsured and underserved individuals. Although the government has begun to address these issues with anti-violence and managed care initiatives, there is still and will always be a pressing need to prepare highly skilled individuals to plan and provide Emergency Medical Services. The purpose of this Emergency Medicine residency is to train physicians to fulfill this need.

The program is sponsored by the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical Education. Saint Michael's Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey is a 300 bed teaching hospital affiliated with the University of New England and Seton Hall University.

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Saint Michael's Medical Center is a member of the Northeast Osteopathic Medical Education Network Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institution.

With the foundation provided by strong academic institutions, excellent affiliated teaching hospitals, and an experienced, dedicated faculty, the program possesses all the prerequisites for achieving its goal of producing superb Emergency Medicine Physicians.
